The Flanders Campaign - 2013 Edition

21.04.2013 - Antwerp 10 Miles

Memories from last year were still fresh and limpid.
The route of the 10 Miles is tricky, with tunnels and slight uphills all across the distance, and as a cherry on top of the cake, the famous Waaslandtunnel, a heartbreaking neverending 2km tunnel magically appearing in front of the runner when only 2.3 km are left to the end.

Red and white coloured BITT athletes took indeed part in the 2013 edition.

Our representants (Camilla, Francesco, Kostas, Marco and Umberto) finally saw the light at the end of the abovementioned tunnel, although the illusion of having climbed the last uphill became true only a few hundred meters before the finish lane.

Here they are, one by one, while about to cross the finish: the expressions of their faces are quite explicit, a mix of relief, pain and satisfaction.

Here below the "Belly-Fotofinish incident": while crossing the line at the same time, Francesco was 1 second and few positions ahead of Umberto in the final ranking. Is Francesco's belly really more generous than Umberto's one, or is it just a technical failure of the fotofinish system?

Umberto appealed to the BBBF (Belgian Beer Belly Federation, see dossier below) and we'll keep you posted on the result of the controversy.

In the meantime, hungry and exhausted, willing to forget the previous dispute, our athletes went for the following light refreshments at De Valera's (Brussels): fries with melted cheese, fries, fries, beef burgers with fries, irish beers, fries, fries.

05.05.2013 - Dwars voor Brugge

"Across Brugge", this is the litteral translation of the name of this race, and it is in fact a nice journey discovering every corner of the city center.
Bill, Camilla, Francesco, Kostas and Umberto were our representants in the city of looove on a sunny spring Sunday afternoon.

Further to a soft healthy pic-nic on the grass based on carbohydrates and (lots of) sugars, today's  BITT delegates performed quite well in a naturally fast race, as expected.

The energy of Camilla-Charlotte while crossing the finish line, gaining also one precious position in the overall ranking, explains the motivation and determination of the Team today.

The concurrent on the left of the pic below withdrew from her intention to appeal only after tasting a couple of shots of Brugse Zot, the local beer and main sponsor of the event, previously savoured and warmly recommended by Umberto at the last "refreshment" point.

After some stretching and some rest on the grass, here they are toasting with another Brugse Zolt!

  1. A big thank and hug to our friends, Julia, Katerina, Raffaella, Riccardo and Nicola who were there to support us when running "in fucking Bruges" (quote of In Bruges - 2008)
