11 November 2012 -> Athens Classic Marathon: everybody's dream, the primal challenge.
Every cm of that route is history.
The marathon course is based on the myth from which the race gained its name: Pheidippides, a messenger in Ancient Greece, ran from the Battle of Marathon to Athens to announce the Greeks' victory over the Persians.
Mr Kostas will climb from the 10th to the 31st km then roll down to the finish line, as fast as he never did before, representing B.I.T.Team in this rendez-vous with the legend.
The course usually begins in the town of Marathon, where it passes the tomb of the Athenian soldiers, and it traces a path near the coast through Nea Makri. Following the steep rise, the course goes lightly downhill towards the city of Athens. It passes a statue of a runner (Ο Δρομέας) in the city centre before finishing up at the Panathinaiko Stadium, a site for athletics competitions in ancient times and the finishing point for both the 1896 and 2004 Olympic marathons.
According to Herodotus, before running the famous distance the famous Pheidippides was sent to run from Athens to Sparta to ask for assistance before the battle. He enthusiastically ran a distance of over 225 kilometers (140 miles), arriving in Sparta the day after he left.
Fortunately the approach to the legendary distance will be much softer for Mr Kostas, as the Team booked him a comfortable flight to Athens. "Mlk" no need to to run till there, save energies!!

The Team fully supports Mr Kostas' challenge, and will follow minute by minute this glorious day.
Mr Kostas with B.I.T.Team for THE challenge, THE marathon.
