Stockholm City Marathon is one of the "not-to-be-missed" races in Northern Europe.
Back in November 1978, an article about NYC Marathon appeared on Sports Illustrated illuminated the mind of a sport journalist, Andres Olsson, who actually put into practice the dream of many of the runners of the time, organizing and inagurating the first edition of Stockholm Marathon on Aug 4 1979, with 2000 participants and a great, unexpected media coverage.
Many runners from every corner of the world participated in the following editions, as for example ABBA-star Björn Ulvéus in 1980 and a very FIT former boxing world heavy-weight champion Ingemar Johansson (in the pic below) in 1981.
Coming back to more recent times, 2013 edition was supposed to host over 21.500 runners.
Weather conditions couldn't be as awful as last year, when the mercury dropped at 3° after the start, with gusts of wind up to 18 metres per second and persistent rain.
Our beloved Caroline started her looong day preparing the usual dose of carbohydrates to be consumed 3 hours prior to the start. Borda t-shirt is already on, as a second skin.
Not too nervous before the start?
BBBBBBBIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
The route: two laps around the medieval City situated on fourteen islands, on the
banks of the archipelago of 24,000 islands, ending in the glorious 1912 Olympic Stadium.
First wave of runners
...and a gallery of pics dedicated to Caroline, raising hands and always smiling despite the big effort!
Here's the finish lane, last 100m under the rain. Well done Caroline!
