Brussels Ekiden Relay 2013 - The Dream Team is back!

Second participation in a row for the team in the Brussels Acerta Ekiden Relay, the biggest relay race in the world. Almost 2000 teams of 6 runners took part in this 2013 edition.

Meeting point was set at 12.00 in an incredibly sunny day at Roi Baudoin Stadium.

BITT as you can see in first picture regularly paid the registration fee and has number 1116.

Here's the line up of today's race:

1. Francesco, distance: 5km
2. Kostas, distance: 10km
3. Silvia, distance: 5km
4. Agustin, distance: 10km
5. Ghost Runner, distance: 5km
6. Cristina, distance: 7.2 km

As previously said warm temperatures and bright sky (that in Brussels just means "dry weather conditions") made this day more pleasant for the runners animating the area inside and outside the stadium for the whole afternoon.

Here below some pics of our line up before the race

The captain is feeling the tension before the start................

And fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally, a warm welcome to the very first Argentinian member running with BITT: clap your hands for Mr Agustin!! Please note that this shoot is taken before the start, we assure his expression has slightly changed after those 10 hilly infinite kms.

13.00 The race starts!

Passage in the stadium...

...and by the Atomium!

One of the relay points: a huge crowd of runners waiting in their boxes for their teammates to pass the relay on.

And, ladies and gentlemen, the Ghost Runner: due to an unforeseen defection of runner n.5, our Ghost Runner flew to the stadium to rescue us and bring us to the final goal. We had to promise him free portuguese food until the end of 2014 though, a considerable effort in terms of budget.

Aaaaaaand, here below Cristina few minutes after crossing the finish line! The relay finally reached the end of its journey, definitely heavier than few hours before.. our hero improvises then a Waka Waka dance cheered by her teammates together with Belgian Royal family, also present int he audience.

Final picture of a fantastic day, the Dream team posing and showing the silver medals.
For the records, here's the final result of the team: 988° place in 3.53.42!

Cheers to Francesco, Kostas, Silvia, Agustin, Mr Ghost and Cristina!

Follow us to Athens Classic Marathon on the 10th of November!!
